Men, Women & Trans Policy

The current Waytu Wa/onderings are for people who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth – known in some quarters as ‘cis’ people. It is in this sense that the terms ‘men’ and ‘women’ are used. We have thought deeply about this matter. We fully recognize and honour the distinctive – and very challenging – experiences of trans people, who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. It is a different – and no less important – experience than that of cis people.

For the wa/onderings pilots, and now for the extended programme, it has been important for us to base the work on the underlying commonality experienced by people who have grown up presenting in – and biologically-socially experiencing - the gender they were assigned at birth. It is part of the safety of the group, as much as growing up presenting as white or of colour is a common factor in all white or all poc groups which can help create safety and trust in groups exploring racism.

Time and energy allowing, as two cis women we are open to running trans wa/onderings events. If you are interested in this possibility, please contact me for a discussion.
