About the event
Healing Racism – Finding Our True Colours – with Jassy Denison
These are spaces for people of all racial origins and identities who are concerned about racism and have a personal commitment to building, from the inside out*, a world free of the barriers and suffering that racism brings.
Participants in these events have travelled some way along a path of personal awareness and self-development and may also have engaged in social action to address these issues. Jassy, a white colleague, and I have worked together and in parallel developing this programme.
We now also offer separate 1-2-1 and group work with white people and people of colour respectively.
The aim of this work is to embark on a journey of healing our self and our relationships in the area of ‘race’ and racism. It is our hope to increase awareness, insight, compassion and resilience in people in a way that can help transform us and our world. We hope through this work to help develop the wisdom and compassion that is sometimes missing in consideration of ‘race’, laying the foundations for genuine dialogue, wisdom and healing – across – and within - racial distinctions.
The group journey starts with an introductory day and opens out into a series of gatherings to support understanding, healing and growth.
The individual journey starts with reflective practices and an introductory session of 1 ½ -2 hours, followed by 3-5 more sessions of 1 hour, plus practical and personal exercises in between sessions.
*I am indebted in this work to many teachers, including Ruth King, author of Mindful of Race and other valuable publications.
Group Size: The group will be limited to no more than 12 and is intended to be diverse – not only racially, but in terms of gender, class and other characteristics.
Accessibility: Please let us know in advance about any particular needs you have. Please also note that this venue is not fully accessible; however, we are committed to inclusion and will make every effort to work with you to meet your needs and enable you to participate.
Food: Please indicate if you have specific dietary requirements. Our intention is to provide basic vegetarian food, and we ask that you bring food to share, to supplement this. Once we know the dietary requirements of those attending, we will share these with you, so that you can decide what to bring.
Money: In line with the values we hold in common, and to contribute to a world governed by love and trust, we are offering this event on a ‘pay what you can afford and want to pay’ basis. We are making use of Jassy & her partner Mike’s beautiful home and surroundings, and are dedicating a day of our time, plus all preparatory work, without setting a fee for your attendance. Once you have attended - and if you feel the event has been of value to you - we welcome donations of any size, and we also accept your freedom not to donate: it is your choice.
